Team Liquid suffers first loss of the 2019 LCS Spring Split against TSM

TSM Defeats Undefeated Team Liquid with Unique Strategy

Facing an undefeated Team Liquid squad, TSM needed a different approach to secure a victory. In a surprising move, Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik picked Jax, a champion that had not been seen in the 2019 League of Legends Championship Series until then.

With Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong blind picking Yorick for the top lane, TSM capitalized on the Yorick counter by quickly picking Jax. Alongside jungler Matthew “Akaadian” Higginbotham, Broken Blade easily overcame the laning phase.

With the splitpushing power of Jax and a fed Broken Blade, TSM steadily chipped away at Liquid’s resources. By the end of the game, Broken Blade had a significant gold lead over Impact. In teamfights, Broken Blade proved to be a formidable force. He finished the game with a perfect KDA of three kills, two assists, and no deaths. Akaadian on Sejuani also contributed greatly with four kills and only one death.

By the late game, TSM allowed Broken Blade to splitpush until every inhibitor was open. Liquid attempted to steal Baron out of desperation but was picked off one by one by TSM. After the game, TSM mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg expressed the importance of the match, stating, “I think this was an important match for us, especially since we think we are a strong team but we haven’t been able to show it.”

Having handed Liquid their first loss of the season, TSM now looks forward to facing FlyQuest and CLG in week five to further prove their strength.
