Team Liquid secures spot in Worlds group stage with tiebreaker win against Legacy Esports

Team Liquid Advances to Group Stage of League of Legends World Championship

Team Liquid has secured their spot in the group stage of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship after a convincing victory over Oceania’s Legacy Esports in a tiebreaker match today.

The day started off strong for Liquid, with two dominant wins in the tournament’s first two days and a commendable performance against Papara SuperMassive earlier today. However, their match against the CBLoL’s INTZ Esports didn’t go as planned, leading to a tiebreaker to determine their fate.

A Quick and Decisive Win

In the tiebreaker match against Legacy, Liquid emerged victorious in a swift game that lasted just over 20 minutes, making it the fastest game of the tournament so far. Liquid’s win in the tiebreaker was seven minutes faster than any other game in the play-in stage. Notably, the gold differential reached a staggering 13,200 by the time Legacy’s Nexus was destroyed.

Legacy’s Evolution and Liquid’s Dominance

Although Liquid had previously defeated Legacy in the tournament, the tiebreaker match showcased a potential evolution in Legacy’s performance. However, Liquid proved to have the upper hand once again.

Despite Legacy’s victories against other teams in Group A during the play-in stage, Liquid continued to outperform them. This win secured Liquid’s advancement to the group stage of Worlds 2020.

What’s Next?

With this victory, Liquid will now move on to the group stage of the World Championship. They have the opportunity to be placed in either Group A or B, as other North American teams are already present in Groups C and D. Legacy will advance to the final round of the play-in stage, where they will face off against the winner of a best-of-five matchup between Rainbow7 and LGD Gaming to determine the final spot in the main event of Worlds.
