Team Liquid in discussions to become title sponsor for Curse

Team Curse to Relinquish Branding

Team Curse announced on October 19 that it would give up the branding of its two LCS teams. However, it seems that they have already found a buyer. Team Liquid is in talks to take over as the brand sponsor, according to sources close to Team Curse.

Team Liquid Seals the Deal

“There were several parties interested in making the deal,” the source said. “But in the end it’s Team Liquid that sealed it.”

Other Interested Parties

Other parties interested in the deal included the legendary North American Call of Duty organization, OpTic Gaming.

“Following Curse Academy winning the expansion tournament, their players were talking about the deal and said it was between Team Liquid and OpTic,” one person said.

An Announcement Expected Soon

Sources indicate that the move is in the advanced stages and an announcement can be expected soon.

Team Liquid’s History

For years, Team Liquid has been synonymous with StarCraft. The site was founded in 2001 and became the central hub for Westerners to discuss the game. Team Liquid expanded into other games like Dota 2 and Hearthstone. However, it was unclear if they would acquire a League of Legends team.

Hints of Acquisition

There have been hints recently that Team Liquid would acquire a League of Legends team. On November 21, Team Liquid’s sales manager tweeted a picture with a League of Legends logo in Team Liquid’s colors in the background.

Speculation Ends

Ken “Hot_Bid” Chen, Team Liquid’s former COO, could not comment on any expansion into League of Legends for his former organization, further fueling the speculation.

Now, it seems, the speculation is close to an end.
