Team 8 Holds Open Tryouts for Top Lane Position
The highly anticipated League of Legends world championships are just two weeks away, but teams that didn’t qualify are already focusing on next year. Team 8 has announced that it is holding open tryouts for the top lane position, which was vacated by veteran player Steve “Calitrlolz” Kim. Kim is returning to pharmacy school after taking a year-long leave of absence to play in the League Championship Series (LCS) after his team qualified.
Qualifications and Expectations
Team 8 is looking for a Master/Challenger player with strong communication skills and a positive attitude. The team expects the player to practice for at least 70 hours every week. While applications from all regions are accepted, fluency in English is preferred. The team also hopes to find someone with competitive experience, even if it is just in the Challenger scene.
Top lane is known as one of the toughest positions in competitive play. The competitive experience in top lane differs significantly from solo queue, making it challenging even for highly skilled players to transition.
If you are a Master player and are willing to dedicate 10 hours a day to playing League of Legends, you can email Team 8 for the opportunity to join the team. Be prepared to answer tough questions during the selection process, such as: What does League of Legends mean to you? What is your LCS motivation? What qualities make you an upcoming LCS-caliber top laner? What do you think you need to improve on?
Big Shoes to Fill
Whoever earns the top lane position will have a lot to live up to. Kim was the face of Team 8, known for their unique and aggressive playstyle. He led the LCS in kills from the top lane during the Spring season and served as the team’s shot caller.
In their final series defending their spot in the LCS against Imagine Gaming, Team 8 used Kim and won the promotion event 3-1, avoiding relegation. The team had a disappointing 6-12 record in the Summer season, following their 9-9 record and near playoff qualification in the Spring.
Being an LCS player is a challenging job. It requires 70 plus hour work weeks and provides little job security. But for those living the esports dream, it is all worth it.
