T1 has announced that Faker will be replaced in the upcoming 2023 LCK Summer Split games due to a hand injury. The legendary mid laner will be temporarily substituted by academy player Yoon “Poby” Sung-won.
The organization posted the news on social media on July 5 ahead of T1’s match against DRX in week five of the 2023 LCK Summer Split. The announcement stated, “Faker will take a temporary break due to his injury starting with today’s match against DRX.”
Furthermore, the announcement provided some details about Faker’s injury. It mentioned that he underwent a medical examination when his condition did not improve, and fortunately, no major abnormalities were found in the x-rays and MRI results. T1 also assured that Faker will receive the best physical therapy treatments and rehabilitation programs.
This news first came to light on July 2 when Faker himself spoke to the media and disclosed his struggle with the injury. He explained that he had been experiencing issues with his right hand since T1’s match against BRION on June 17.
Fans worldwide have been concerned about Faker’s health and have sent him well wishes for a speedy recovery. However, the duration of his break from competitive matches remains unknown.

In addition to the match against DRX on July 5, T1 will face a tough opponent in week five. They are scheduled to compete against Gen.G, the undefeated defending champions of the 2023 LCK Summer Split, on Saturday, July 8.
