This year’s League of Legends Worlds Championship marks the return of the legendary former jungler of SK Telecom T1, Bengi. After six years since his last appearance in the tournament, Bengi is now serving as the head coach for his long-time home organization.

“I was a bit nervous, but it was definitely worth a shot,” Bengi said about his new role.

Previously, the idea of Bengi becoming the head coach of T1 seemed like a dream. However, shortly after the team’s loss in the grand finals, T1 CEO Joe Marsh made the “gut decision” to promote Bengi to the position. Bengi’s experience as a former champion and his understanding of what it takes to win played a significant role in his elevation.

Bengi, together with Faker, his former teammate and now pupil, achieved three World Championships between 2013 and 2016. No other players in the history of League have won as many titles as Faker and Bengi. Their synergy and success are now being passed down to the next generation of players in T1.

Despite his years away from the competitive scene, Bengi feels a fresh sense of excitement as he prepares for Worlds 2022. He believes that T1’s success should inspire and encourage their younger players to achieve greatness.

In the upcoming tournament, Bengi will have the opportunity to reunite with Cloud9 AD carry Berserker, one of the former players he worked with during his time as head coach of T1’s Challengers team. Bengi had high expectations for Berserker and is delighted to see him succeed on a top-tier team.

Bengi’s head coaching debut for T1’s main roster will be against the defending world champions, Edward Gaming, on October 7th. He will also face off against Berserker and Cloud9 on October 9th.
