Splyce rumored to rebrand as MAD Lions, building 2020 LEC roster centered around mid laner Humanoid

Splyce Rebrands to MAD Lions in 2020

Splyce, the League of Legends team, is set to undergo a rebranding and will be known as MAD Lions going forward. This news comes from a report by ESPN.

New Ownership and Embracing Change

MAD Lions Esports Club, a Spanish esports organization, was acquired by OverActive Media earlier this year. As a result, Splyce will fully embrace the MAD Lions branding, replacing its iconic yellow snake logo.

Building a New Roster

The organization plans to build its 2020 LEC roster around Czech mid laner Marek “Humanoid” Brázda. Additionally, top laner Andrei “Orome” Popa will reportedly be promoted to the starting lineup. Mousesports jungler Zhiqiang “Shadow” Zhao, former Berlin International Gaming AD carry Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság, and support player Norman “Gistick” Kaiser will also join the five-man roster, according to ESPN.

Changes and Restructuring

OverActive Media recently went through a restructuring process in September, which resulted in several changes within the organization. Some employees affected by these changes reached out to esports website Dexerto for more information.

“OverActive Media gave us the option to stay until December or leave immediately with severance pay,” one employee said. “The majority of the staff accepted the payouts and left Splyce yesterday.”

It remains unclear what impact these changes will have on the company, but Splyce will no longer exist in 2020.

A History of Success

Since joining the LEC in 2016, Splyce has experienced both successes and failures. The team won the regional finals in its debut year and has made multiple appearances at Worlds.

MAD Lions aims to continue the team’s past successes with their new roster in the 2020 season.
