SKT secures a spot in the Worlds 2019 semifinals with a convincing 3-1 win against Splyce

SK Telecom T1 Secures Victory in Exciting Quarterfinals Series

The League of Legends World Championship quarterfinals series between SK Telecom T1 and Splyce reached an intense conclusion when Splyce made a critical mistake, leaving their base unguarded in their pursuit of SKT player Kim “Khan” Dong-ha. This allowed SKT to swiftly advance and claim victory.

The sequence of events unfolded when Khan eliminated Marek “Humanoid” Brázdain in a solo kill, prompting Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir, Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup, Tore “Norskeren” Hoel Eilertsen, and Tamás “Vizicsacsi” Kiss of Splyce to focus their attention on Khan in the top lane. However, this left their base undefended. Meanwhile, SKT had already reached Splyce’s inhibitor tower, strategically pushing further into enemy territory.

As the chase continued, Khan put up a fight and managed to take down Kobbe. Although the remaining three Splyce players attempted to recall, it was too late. SKT had already destroyed both Nexus turrets by the time Splyce completed their recalls. The LCK champions went on to eliminate Xerxe, Vizicsacsi, and finally Splyce’s Nexus, ultimately securing their victory.

SKT’s Journey and Splyce’s Resilience

After falling to ninth place during the LCK Summer Split, SKT underwent a transformation and adapted to the aggressive early game meta, showcasing their dominance. However, against Splyce, SKT faced significant challenges in games three and four. Their aggressive tower dives often backfired, leaving them vulnerable. Splyce’s proactive gameplay, particularly from Xerxe, made it difficult for SKT to maintain their lead.

Despite their defeat, Splyce’s performance throughout the World Championship was commendable. They started from the bottom during the LEC regional finals and worked their way up to secure the region’s third seed at Worlds. They demonstrated their strength in the play-ins and group stages, even defeating FunPlus Phoenix, the LPL Champions. Splyce’s resilience turned what was expected to be a one-sided victory for SKT into an exciting and worthwhile series.
