‘Santorin Reflects on an Unbelievable Journey: Retiring from Professional LoL after a Decade’

Santorin Announces Retirement from Professional League of Legends

Veteran jungler Santorin, who has played professionally for teams like TSM, FlyQuest, and Dignitas, has officially retired after a decade in the esports industry.

The Journey to Professional Gaming

Santorin’s dreams of competing on the professional stage became a reality in 2013 when he was signed to his first esports team, Intellectual Playground.

The End of an Era

After ten years on the pro stage, Santorin announced his retirement from competitive League of Legends on Twitter on October 8. While this came as a shock to many fans, it seems that the decision had been long overdue for the Danish player.

In his retirement post, Santorin shared the ups and downs he experienced throughout his career, from missing important family moments to dealing with health struggles.

A Familiar Story

Santorin’s retirement mirrors that of other retired League of Legends pros, such as Bjergsen and Danny. Many players have faced the difficult decision of choosing between their personal and professional lives or have been overwhelmed by the mental toll of being a professional esports player.

For Santorin, his priorities have shifted, and he now values his family and friendships more than ever. He feels that he can no longer give his best in pro play without leaving them behind, leading him to retire.

Highlights and Achievements

Although Santorin encountered many struggles in his career, there were also numerous highlights. He had the opportunity to compete at the highest level with teams like TSM, FlyQuest, and Dignitas. Santorin played a total of 602 pro games throughout his career and was even named rookie of the split in the 2015 LCS season with TSM.

The Future for Santorin

While Santorin won’t be competing on the pro stage anymore, he plans to transition to full-time streaming. He will continue to play League of Legends and other esports titles on his stream.
