Saintvicious sparks controversy with statement about depression during live stream

FlyQuest Coach Makes Insensitive Comment on Mental Health

FlyQuest coach Brandon “Saintvicious” DiMarco made a shocking remark during a League of Legends stream, where he dismissed mental health issues as “made-up bullshit.” This insensitive comment is particularly concerning considering his role in guiding young professional players. According to Riot Games’ contract database, Saintvicious is still the coach of FlyQuest and is contracted until the end of the 2019 season.

Backlash from the League of Legends Community

This incident has cast a dark shadow over the League of Legends season, which was supposed to be a festive time with the ongoing All-Star Event, holiday decorations on Summoner’s Rift, and new team rosters being revealed. Social media lit up with criticism directed towards Saintvicious from his peers in the League community.

Depression is a Real and Serious Illness

Depression and other mental illnesses are not a joke –they are clinically-proven diseases that impact millions of people worldwide. Prominent League community members, like popular streamer Sky Williams, have openly shared their own struggles and encouraged others to seek help if they are experiencing similar feelings.

Encouraging Help and Support

Saintvicious’ comments not only miss the mark, but they can also be potentially harmful. Those who suffer from depression should be encouraged to seek support from friends, family, and licensed professionals who are equipped to assist them.

Update Dec. 9 1:30am CT: FlyQuest has announced Saintvicious’ resignation. The team will now be coached by Gabriel “Invert” Zoltan-Johan and David “Cop” Roberson.

Anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts is encouraged to call the 24-Hour National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.
