Ryze to Receive Another Mini-Rework with Upcoming PBE Changes

Ryze Champion Changes Coming Soon

Riot Games is preparing to make significant changes to the champion Ryze in the upcoming patch. Ryze has been one of the most reworked champions in League of Legends history, and these changes aim to further redefine his identity.

Revamped Q Ability

In the current live servers, Ryze’s Q ability, Overload, has 6 upgrade ranks, setting it apart from other basic abilities in the game. However, one of the ranks is being given back to his ultimate ability, Realm Warp, bringing Overload back down to 5 ranks.

Changes to Rune Mechanic

The rune mechanic on Ryze’s Q ability is also being adjusted. The shield previously given to Ryze upon rune consumption is being removed, and the speed boost he gains will be weaker in the early game but will ramp up to the same point late-game. Additionally, the damage he gets on Overload based on his E ability, Spell Flux, is being transferred to his ultimate ability and is getting a 20% boost.

Rune Prison Crowd Control Adjustments

Ryze’s Rune Prison ability will now require more preparation before successfully immobilizing enemies. If an enemy is not affected by Spell Flux, Rune Prison will apply a 35% slow for 1.5 seconds, instead of rooting them for 0.75 seconds. However, if Ryze has Spell Flux active on a target, the slow will be replaced by a 1.5 second root. These changes add a degree of counterplay to the ability, making it more manageable for opponents.

Spell Flux Changes and Ultimate Enhancements

Spell Flux, Ryze’s enabling ability, will no longer damage enemies apart from his primary target. However, it will now spread to nearby enemies upon the first cast. This change allows Ryze to deal massive damage to clustered enemies in teamfights. Additionally, the mechanic where Spell Flux spreads to nearby enemies upon the death of a marked enemy has been removed.

Regarding Ryze’s ultimate ability, Realm Warp, it will regain a rank, but at the cost of an increased early cooldown. The cooldown at level 6 will be increased to 210 seconds, but will decrease to 150 seconds at level 16. Moreover, the bonus damage on Overload will now be tied to the rank of Realm Warp, enhancing Ryze’s burst potential but reducing his defensive capabilities.

Overall, these changes to Ryze make him slightly weaker and less reliable in the professional scene, but could improve the overall health of the champion.
