IEM Katowice Day One Recap: Upsets and Competition
Day one of IEM Katowice is over, and there have been some surprising results. The ROX Tigers from the LCK defeated H2k-Gaming, one of Europe’s top teams, in a best-of-three series to secure a spot in the tournament playoffs. G2 Esports also fell to Flash Wolves in Group B. However, the Unicorns of Love remain undefeated, representing Europe’s only hope.
Group A Results
Winner’s Round 1
- ROX Tigers 1-0 M19
ROX Tigers dominated M19, led by a great performance from Son “Mickey” Young-min. They prevented M19 from securing any objectives and won the game with ease.
- H2k-Gaming 1-0 Hong Kong Esports
H2k-Gaming had a tough time against Hong Kong Esports, but managed to secure the victory in the end. It was a close game, but H2k came out on top.
Winner’s Round 2
- ROX Tigers 2-1 H2k-Gaming
The first game of the series was intense, with ROX Tigers dominating objectives to secure the win. H2k-Gaming fought back and forced a game three, but ROX Tigers won decisively to advance to the playoffs. H2k-Gaming will be waiting in the loser’s bracket final to face the winner of M19 vs Hong Kong Esports.

Group B Results
Winner’s Round 1
- Kongdoo Monster 0-1 Unicorns of Love
Unicorns of Love controlled most of the game against Kongdoo Monster, but it took them a while to secure the victory. The game lasted almost 56 minutes, but Unicorns of Love emerged as the winners.
- G2 Esports 0-1 Flash Wolves
G2 Esports, Europe’s top seed, were defeated by Flash Wolves in the first round. Flash Wolves dominated the game and secured the victory in just under 39 minutes.
