‘RNG Coach Shares Thoughts on Replay of Matches at MSI 2022: Is It Excessive?’

Riot Games Erases RNG’s First Three MSI Games Due to Latency Discrepancy

The League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational took an unexpected turn when Riot Games nullified the results of the first three matches played by LPL representatives Royal Never Give Up (RNG).

Latency Issue Affects Group A Games

During the competition, Riot announced a discrepancy in latency being reported in game logs, particularly for teams playing from Busan. Since RNG was the only team playing from home, the issue was limited to Group A. As a result, Riot ordered rematches for each of RNG’s first three games.

RNG’s Coach Reacts to Riot’s Decision

RNG’s head coach, Zhu “KenZhu” Kai, expressed his initial confusion and frustration with Riot’s decision. He explained how the team had to quickly regroup and prepare for the rematches just two hours before their first game of the day. Despite feeling unjustified, KenZhu advised his players to remain professional and respect their opponents, the game, and their fans.

RNG Overcomes Unexpected Events

Despite the timing of the decision, RNG managed to close the day without suffering any losses. In fact, they set a new record for the fastest game at MSI so far against RED Canis. KenZhu praised his players for their calm performance despite the unexpected events surrounding the rematches.

RNG’s Unique Circumstances

RNG is playing from China due to travel restrictions, and Riot allowed them to participate in the competition. KenZhu thanked Riot for the opportunity and highlighted the challenges the team faces, including finishing training late at night and adhering to strict procedures to ensure fairness. The team had to set up their training room, adjust settings, and even conduct interviews themselves with Riot’s supervision.

Continuing Strong in MSI

Although the team considered quitting the competition, KenZhu reassured that RNG will persevere and finish the MSI. The rematches will take place after Group C’s matches, and with a 3-0 score, RNG only needs one more victory to qualify for the next stage of MSI.
