Riot’s Possible Plans to Revamp or Adjust Shields and Healing in Patch 8.6

The End of the Janna Problem in League of Legends?

Riot is planning to revamp the shielding and healing systems in League of Legends, according to a recent comment on the official League forums. These changes, scheduled for Patch 8.6 in about three weeks, might finally address the Janna problem that has persisted in the game.

Plans for the shield and heal changes are not yet final. However, if Riot decides to move forward with them, Janna would certainly be affected.

Janna has remained powerful even after the major nerf to the Ardent Censer item last year. With a winrate of over 54 percent and one of the highest playrates in the game, Janna is currently the most successful support champion, according to game stats site OP.gg. This raises the question of whether shield supports are the problem or if it’s just Janna.

Looking at champion statistics, it becomes clear that Janna is the only enchanter-style support performing well. Playmakers like Bard, Rakan, and Alistar outperform Soraka, and even Blitzcrank and Leona outpace most other enchanters. Damage mage supports like Zyra and Brand have also made a comeback.

Therefore, it is hard to argue that shields and heals are the actual problem. Janna is the outlier, so even if changes are made to the shielding and healing system as a whole, she will likely still require some adjustments.
