Riot’s Plans to Investigate AP Gragas as a More Effective Build in Patch 8.7

Gragas to Receive AP Buffs in Patch 8.7

Gragas, a champion primarily known for his tankiness, is set to receive AP buffs in Patch 8.7, according to Riot employee August Browning’s tweet.

Riot wants to give Gragas the opportunity to test higher AP ability scaling, which would encourage less tanky and more damage-focused builds. Although these changes may be reverted, the intention is clear.

Buff Details

Firstly, his Q ability will receive a 10% increase in AP scaling. While this may not be enough to bring Gragas back to the mid lane, it will significantly boost his jungle clear speed.

Secondly, his Drunken Rage ability will receive a 20% boost in AP scaling. This not only increases the ability’s damage but also its damage reduction, which will increase by eight percent for every 100 AP Gragas has.

Impact of the Buffs

With increased damage reduction, Gragas can sustain in fights without building as tanky, as long as he times his ability correctly.

Even if Gragas doesn’t prioritize AP items, these buffs will still enhance his performance. Adding just one AP item to his build will greatly benefit him.

Arrival with Patch 8.7

These changes are scheduled to arrive with Patch 8.7 in two weeks, unless reverted beforehand.
