Riot’s LEC encountered numerous issues during its first week

League of Legends European Championship Faces Production Issues in Opening Weekend

Riot’s newest franchised esports league, the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), kicked off its first week of competition amidst high anticipation and hype. However, the opening weekend was marred by bugs, production issues, crashes, and delays, leaving fans disappointed.

In the days leading up to the competition, Riot released a series of entertaining commercials and hype videos, effectively building excitement among fans. This resulted in envy from North American fans who wished for a similar level of promotion for their own league.

Unfortunately, when the games finally started, things didn’t go as smoothly as expected. The audience, consisting of virtual fans, had to endure countless pauses, remakes, and technical glitches while trying to enjoy the matches. Riot made efforts to resolve these issues, but significant delays occurred on both days of competition.

Although the production value of the LEC broadcast was visually appealing, the numerous problems that arose considerably dampened the excitement. However, we believe that these issues are temporary and will not persist throughout the season.

Potential Reasons behind the Production Issues

There are two crucial factors to consider when analyzing the problems faced during the opening weekend. Firstly, the LEC has a new arena, which may have been built with upgraded infrastructure. This includes server improvements, network upgrades, and better cable management. However, with such extensive changes, technical difficulties are not uncommon.

Secondly, the LEC has recently partnered with Dell’s Alienware for all esports hardware in Europe. This includes computers, monitors, and peripherals. Given that some of the reported issues involved computer crashes and hardware malfunctions, it’s possible that the new computing equipment played a role. However, these issues can be resolved as the league adapts to the new technology.

Looking Ahead

Despite the disappointing opening weekend, we are optimistic that the LEC will overcome these initial setbacks. The minor bugs and glitches encountered are expected during the early stages of such a large-scale event. As the season progresses, we anticipate the resolution of these issues, allowing fans to fully enjoy the competition.
