Riot’s findings indicate that 10 percent of high Elo LoL games include cheaters

Riot Games’ Vanguard Anti-Cheat Coming to League of Legends

Riot Games’ highly anticipated anti-cheat software, Vanguard, is set to make its way to League of Legends in the near future. While cheaters may seem uncommon in lower ranks, they have unfortunately become all too common in high-Elo games.

Rise in Cheaters Across Ranks

According to a recent blog post by Riot Games announcing Vanguard’s arrival, the number of cheaters in ranked games has been on the rise. In fact, during the first half of 2023, more than 10 percent of Master games were found to have cheaters.

Cheaters weren’t limited to just the Master rank either. The data reveals that even ranks like Gold and Grandmaster were not immune to cheaters, with more than 10 percent of matches experiencing cheaters at certain points.

Unofficial Numbers Could Be Even Higher

It’s important to note that the data only accounts for cheaters who were officially caught and proven to be using illegal software in their games. The actual number of cheaters may be much higher, as some may go undetected.

Riot’s Commitment to Combatting Cheaters

In response to the rising number of cheaters, Riot Games stated in their blog post, “The polyphonic rainbow you’re now bearing witness to is the percentage of Ranked games completed with a cheater, bucketed by what tier the scripter was in at the end of the game… Worse still, we can’t see how that trend continues, because the current anti-cheat is beaten.”

Given the concerning data, it comes as no surprise that Riot Games is actively working on implementing Vanguard in League of Legends. While an exact release date has yet to be confirmed, a tweet from Riot on April 12 mentioned that it’s “coming soon,” and the team has previously suggested an April launch. With the urgency brought forth by the latest data, many players hope to see Vanguard in action sooner rather than later.
