Riot’s 2018 MSI broadcast team could benefit from additional talent hailing from the LCK

2018 Mid-Season Invitational: Riot Announces English Caster and Analyst Team

Get ready for the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational, where champions in competitive League of Legends will be crowned around the world. In just over a week, 14 teams from major regions will compete, starting with the play-in stage at Riot’s Berlin studio in Germany.

Today, Riot Games revealed the official English caster and analyst team for the event. Most of the team consists of carryovers from Worlds 2017, with the addition of two new color commentators from Asia.

Experienced names like Martin “Deficio” Lynge and David “Phreak” Turley will be part of the team. Joining them are Barento “Raz” Mohammed, a color caster for the LPL, and Jake “Spawn” Tiberi, a caster for the OPL.

However, one area where Riot’s event coverage falls short is the representation from the LCK. This is mostly due to the limited number of casters from Korean broadcasters OGN and SpoTV, who only have four casters.

Nevertheless, the LCK is known for its high level of play in League of Legends. With KING-ZONE DragonX, the reigning LCK champions, heavily favored to win the event, it would be beneficial to have more than just Chris “PapaSmithy” Smith to share their story.

Fortunately, there may be changes on the horizon for LCK event coverage. With Worlds 2018 set to take place in Korea and Riot’s plans to handle production of the LCK in 2019, we might see more representation from the region in future international events.
