Riot unveils the official single of League of Legends Worlds 2019, “Phoenix”

Riot Games Releases Official Worlds 2019 Single and Music Video: “Phoenix”

Riot Games has finally released the official single and music video for Worlds 2019, titled “Phoenix.” The video delivers an important message to League of Legends players worldwide: sometimes, you can be your own worst enemy.

Featuring Cailin Russo and Crissy Costanza, “Phoenix” had previously been leaked as a 30-second teaser by Apple Music China. However, Riot has now officially unveiled the full song.

The Video and Its Meaning

The “Phoenix” music video begins similarly to last year’s single, “POP/STARS,” with a dimly lit train. However, it quickly turns into a psychological thriller, where League champions and professional players face their evil doppelgängers, representing self-doubt.

Well-known players like G2 Esports’ mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther and SK Telecom T1 legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok make appearances, along with other pros who battle against themselves. Champions Lissandra, Irelia, and Karma also join the fight, determined not to surrender to their darker sides.

A Message of Overcoming Doubt

In the end, the video showcases a victorious outcome. The players and champions conquer their fears and doubts on the battlefield, emerging stronger than ever—hence the title of the song, “Phoenix.”

This is the second time that Against the Current lead singer Costanza has contributed to a League song. She previously lent her vocals to the Worlds 2017 single, “Legends Never Die.”

Rejoice, Fans!

Fans who have long-awaited the release of “Phoenix” can now celebrate—and gain some valuable insights.
