Riot to reduce Aphelios’ Infernum power, mobility, and health in Patch 10.1

Riot Games to Nerf Aphelios in League of Legends

Riot Games’ lead gameplay designer Mark “Scruffy” Yetter announced a series of nerfs today for Aphelios, the champion in League of Legends, to address his overpowered abilities.

Aphelios: Not as Difficult as He Seems

Despite being marketed as a champion with a high skill ceiling, players quickly realized that Aphelios was actually quite easy to master once they understood the basics. Additionally, he proved to be incredibly strong regardless of which weapons he had.

Balancing Moonlight Vigil and Infernum

One of Aphelios’ most broken abilities was his ultimate, Moonlight Vigil, combined with the wave clearing weapon, Infernum. This attack caused flames to erupt around each enemy player hit, resulting in devastating damage. Players were able to wipe out entire enemy teams with a single ultimate, as seen in various clips circulating online.

Riot is now reducing the damage overlap from 100 percent to 75 percent, effectively preventing team wipes. However, this is not the only change being made to Aphelios.

Further Adjustments to Aphelios

In addition to the damage reduction, Aphelios will also experience a five-point reduction in movement speed and a decrease in base health from 530 to 500. These adjustments may only be the beginning of Riot’s efforts to balance Aphelios’ kit.
