Riot swiftly implements nerfs for Zed and Kai’Sa in LoL to prevent overpowering

Riot Games to Nerf Overpowered Champions in Upcoming Patch

Riot Games developers have acknowledged that several champions in League of Legends have become too strong and will be receiving nerfs in the upcoming patch.

The targeted champions for nerfs include Kai’Sa, Zed, Quinn, Akshan, and Bel’Veth. These changes are expected to be implemented in League Patch 13.20, although the developers view them as temporary fixes until more extensive changes are released during the preseason.

Focus on Season 14 and Preseason Update

Following the release of the major League update, Patch 13.19, the developers are now focusing on Season 14 and its major patch, the 14.1 preseason update. However, this does not mean that they are ignoring the need for champion nerfs in the current meta.

Five Champions Set for Nerfs in Patch 13.20

Matt “RiotPhroxon” Leung-Harrison, the lead gameplay designer for League of Legends, has highlighted five champions that will receive nerfs in Patch 13.20. These champions include Kai’Sa, Bel’Veth, Quinn, Zed, and Akshan, as they have become too strong in their respective roles.

Significant Rise in Kai’Sa’s Win Rate

Kai’Sa has seen a significant increase in her win rate, particularly when using the Umbral Glaive build. This rise in win rate is observed in both high Elo and low Elo matches. Therefore, the nerfs are targeted towards addressing her dominance in the game.

Zed’s Mage Build Becoming Too Strong

Zed, who has had a relatively poor victory ratio for most of the year, is receiving nerfs due to the strength of his mage build when paired with Ravenous Hydra. The developers believe that the item is in a good place and that Zed needs to be adjusted accordingly. These nerfs may affect Zed’s position in the metagame, but it is unclear whether they are intended for a potentially overpowered version of Zed in the future.

Temporary Nerfs for Preseason Changes

The developers clarify that these nerfs are not final and that further changes will be made during the preseason. However, these changes should be sufficient to address the balance issues for the current season.

The balance team is currently focused on implementing preseason changes and resolving any issues with the 2023 League World Championship patch. Therefore, these nerfs will serve as temporary solutions.
