Riot shows off new LoL Mastery crests, hints at more changes following player outrage

After receiving a ton of feedback and criticism from the League of Legends player base, Riot Games has shown off some significant changes planned for the Mastery system moving forward.

First, one of the most significant improvements that the developers have planned is an update to the Mastery crest design and emote, which has been the cause of many complaints from League fans. When the Mastery crests’ designs were updated earlier this year, gamers were horrified by the new style, which reminded them of a “cheap mobile game.”

Riot has also admitted that, while some of the Champion Mastery upgrades are looking promising so far, a few details, such as the looks of the crest, require improvement. Currently, the Mastery crest designs are substantially different from their initial appearance, including a starry pattern with very minimal, contemporary graphics.

The planned improvements should be warmly accepted because the crest retains the essence of the old design while adding a modern flair, as opposed to the cosmos-inspired crests we see today. The new crests use a similar color palette to the former crests while yet emanating the same sense of prestige, with the golden wings at the foreground of the design.

In addition to the crest design, Riot will bring back Challenges based on the amount of Mastery Seven champions in your roster. This was a significant pain point for gamers who had already unlocked many Challenges and titles in the years preceding the Mastery system change.

Lastly, Riot will be exploring different ways for players to earn and progress their Mastery on other maps and modes away from Summoner’s Rift, which should be welcome news for League players who don’t step too far into the realm of regular games and frequent more casual modes like ARAM and Arena.
