Riot shares plans for Champion’s Queue changes amidst controversy

Riot Games Making Improvements to Champion’s Queue Experience

After receiving feedback from players, Riot Games is implementing changes to enhance the experience of Champion’s Queue, the pro-exclusive queue in North American League of Legends.

In a recent developer post, Riot Games addressed the concerns surrounding Champion’s Queue and acknowledged the controversies regarding its usage and match quality for the region’s top League players.

Together with the LCS Players Association, Amateur Committee, and Academy Committee, Riot is actively working on four key areas: scheduling, match quality, player base, and voice comms. These factors have contributed to a decline in the usage of the exclusive queue, and Riot aims to resolve these issues before the start of the next Champion’s Queue split.

The second split of the queue concluded recently, with CLG Academy’s Dhokla finishing at the top. To provide players with a fresh start after this split and to accommodate the end of the LCS and Academy seasons, there won’t be another split in the spring season. Instead, there will be a brief pause until the summer season begins on May 31, in order to align with the start and end of the LCS Summer Split Regular Season.

Riot will also be testing a new MMR system for Champion’s Queue to address concerns about long queue times. To compensate for this, the player base will be expanded to include players from the upcoming Proving Grounds Qualifiers. Additionally, a feature will be added to the Champion’s Queue Discord server, allowing players to see which roles are needed in games.

The issue of voice comm usage was raised as well since it is optional in Champion’s Queue, similar to normal League parties. Riot will explore making voice comms opt-in for players participating in Champion’s Queue.

The improvements to Champion’s Queue will be implemented gradually as Riot identifies areas for improvement. The summer season is set to begin on May 31 and will run until August 21.
