Riot reveals updates to Ahri’s art and sustainability in League of Legends

Ahri to Receive Art and Sustainability Update in 2023

Ahri, one of the most popular champions in League of Legends, is set to receive a much-needed update to freshen up her gameplay and appearance. Despite being released in 2011, Ahri continues to be a fan favorite, prompting Riot Games to give her a revamp.

However, this update is different from what players are used to. It’s an art and sustainability update (ASU), which focuses on making it easier for Riot to develop new cosmetics for Ahri in the future. The ASU does not alter her gameplay mechanics but instead ensures sustainability for the long term.

Lead producer Layla “yoganinja” Jean explains, “We want to make future skin development for these champs more streamlined. To do this, we do a number of things, like refactoring how data is set up in the engine, how art is authored across source art packages, and using modern tools and tech to upgrade the champion.”

Enhancements in Ahri’s Update

In Ahri’s update, Riot has planned changes for various aspects of her character. This includes animations, visual effects, audio effects, and her story-driven narrative. Ahri will also have a new set of voice lines that reflect her journey as a character in the world of Runeterra, including her role in the Ruined King storyline.

Riot will combine different elements from Ahri’s appearances in League of Legends cinematics and in-game designs. They aim to blend her appearance from the popular “A New Dawn” trailer while incorporating small nods to her look in Ruined King. The developers want to emphasize Ahri’s wild and feral side while still showcasing her graceful Vastayan beauty.

Ahri’s animation team has made significant efforts to enhance her unique character asset: her nine tails. The tails will now have a new system based on movement and ability usage. This system allows the tails to respond to player input, creating a more immersive experience.
