Riot reveals plans for Jax’s mid-season update in League of Legends 2023 with powerful new weaponry

Jax to Receive Exciting Changes in League of Legends Patch 13.1

Riot Games has officially announced that Jax and Rell are set to receive a mid-scope update. After weeks of anticipation, Riot has revealed the complete list of changes Jax will be getting with the upcoming League of Legends Patch 13.1.

Jax’s Counterstrike and Grandmaster’s Might will be the focus of these changes, as confirmed by lead champion designer August Browning on Twitter. The goal is to make Jax’s ultimate spell more thrilling and rewarding to use and reintroduce the option to build him as an Ability Power character.

The Jax midscope update will be available on PBE tomorrow (12/2) and is planned to be included in Patch 13.1. Feedback on the update is welcome and encouraged. August also mentioned that the update will have a smaller scope, mainly aimed at making Jax’s ult more exciting to cast and boosting his burst potential for AP enthusiasts (Twitter).

Changes to Counterstrike

With these updates, Jax’s passive abilities, Relentless Assault and Empower, will remain unchanged. Instead, Riot is focusing on improving Counterstrike by adding more scaling, particularly Ability Power scaling.

The base damage of Counterstrike will receive an increase from 55-155 to 55-175 and will scale with 100% of Ability Power. To balance this change, the damage bonus per attack dodged will be reduced from 20% of total damage to 20% of base damage. This adjustment is crucial for AP Jax players (Twitter).

Major Changes to Grandmaster’s Might

The most significant updates are coming to Jax’s Grandmaster’s Might. The damage of this ability will be reduced from 100/140/180 (plus 70% AP) to 100-150 (60% AP). Additionally, a new active ability will be added: “Jax swings his lantern around him, dealing 150-350 (plus 100% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies. If he hits a champion, he gains 10-40 (+.1 bonus AD) Armor and Magic Resist, plus 14-22 (+.1 bonus AD) per champion hit for the next eight seconds. During this time, the passive damage applies every second attack instead of every third.” August also hinted at a secret passive involving a fishing mini-game (Twitter).

Impact of the Changes

These updates will significantly impact Jax’s scaling and dueling potential, transforming him into a mix of melee AP assassins when facing squishier opponents and an AP-oriented bruiser who can excel in teamfights (Twitter).

Patch 13.1 is expected to be released on live servers early next year.
