Riot refutes claims of Seraphine being inspired by any specific person

Controversy Surrounding League of Legends Champion Seraphine

Stephanie Dorris has raised concerns about the new League of Legends champion, Seraphine, suggesting that the character may have been based on her. In a Twitter thread and Medium post, Dorris claimed that Seraphine’s name, drawings, cat, hair color, eye color, and even selfies bear a striking resemblance to herself [URL to the Twitter thread and Medium post]. These allegations quickly gained attention and sparked a heated debate.

Riot Games, however, strongly denies these claims. According to Inven Global’s Tim Rizzo, Riot stated that Seraphine was “not based on any individual, including Ms. Dorris.” So, it seems that the controversy surrounding Seraphine’s origins remains unresolved.

Adding fuel to the fire, Dorris revealed that she was briefly involved with a former Riot employee, who allegedly suggested creating an “e-girl” or “awkward” skin for another champion named Ahri, inspired by her. The Riot employee even invited Dorris to participate in a “top-secret” project [YouTube video URL if available]. However, Riot clarified that this employee had left the company over a year ago and had no influence on the creative design process.

Last month, Dorris’s attorney sent Riot a legal demand letter regarding this matter. Riot, dismissing the claim as lacking merit, offered to discuss the facts further with the attorney [YouTube video URL if available].

Interestingly, Riot’s senior game designer, Jeevun Sidhu, hinted in October that his wife served as the inspiration for Seraphine. However, Riot maintains that the champion was not based on any specific individual [YouTube video URL if available]. This adds another layer to the ongoing debate.

It’s worth mentioning that Seraphine has already faced criticism for her lore, which reveals her use of Brackern souls to enhance her stage performances and magical abilities [YouTube video URL if available]. Additionally, concerns have been raised about Seraphine’s Twitter account, where she discusses her anxieties and insecurities [YouTube video URL if available]. Some argue that using mental health struggles for marketing purposes is questionable.

As the controversy continues to unfold, has reached out to Dorris for a comment on the situation [URL to contact Dorris]. Stay tuned for further updates.
