Riot shifts focus from creating MSI 2024 anthem: Here’s the reason

The Absence of a 2024 MSI Anthem

With every League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational since 2019, a unique anthem has been released. This year was supposed to mark the debut of the fifth anthem for the event, but fans will have to wait until the World Championship for new music.

Unexpected News from Riot Games

Fans eagerly anticipating the start of the 2024 competitive season of League will be disappointed to learn that this year’s MSI will not have a custom anthem. Riot Games confirmed in a statement to Dot Esports that they are prioritizing a captivating broadcast for fans worldwide.

Comparing MSI and Worlds Anthems

Previous MSI anthems have garnered an average of two million views on YouTube and 14 million listens on Spotify. These numbers pale in comparison to the immense popularity of the Worlds anthems, which average around 70 million views on YouTube alone. Despite this, MSI anthems hold a special place in the event’s identity, especially after the 2020 rebrand.

Exciting Expectations for MSI 2024

In addition to an exhilarating broadcast and multilingual co-streams, MSI attendees can look forward to an opening ceremony that highlights League pros. Last year’s finals saw a captivating performance featuring the anthem and a dance routine showcasing the Inkshadow skin line created for MSI 2023.

While this year’s MSI won’t introduce a new skin line, Neon Strata returns with six new Empyrean skins that perfectly reflect the event’s vibrant theme. The tournament’s kick-off in Chengdu, China promises exciting matchups starting with FlyQuest versus PSG Talon, followed by Estral Esports facing off against the reigning champions, T1.
