Riot Phreak Targets ‘Inconsistent’ League of Legends Hitboxes in Upcoming Balance Project

League of Legends Champion Hitbox Adjustments Coming in Patch 14.9

Riot Games’ game designer Phreak is taking on the challenge of addressing inconsistencies in each champion’s hitbox in League of Legends. In the upcoming Patch 14.9, adjustments will be made to improve the clickability and selection of champions as targets for spells. Phreak aims to ensure that the hitboxes are more in line with the size of each champion, eliminating issues like the Yordle-sized Warwick.

In the past, League of Legends has seen some minor adjustments to hitboxes, mainly focusing on single-target projectiles and skill shot abilities. Graves’ Q, End of the Line, and Nautilus’ Q, Dredge Line are examples of abilities whose hitboxes were inconsistent and needed improvements. Even the fiery fledgling Smolder received a minor fix-up for his hitbox that didn’t match his model accurately.

In Patch 14.9, a significant number of champions, 34 in total, will have their hitboxes altered across three categories or “radii.” These categories include the champ’s actual hitbox, clickbox, and their ability to block minions. Yuumi and K’Sante will undergo changes in all three categories, while most champions will receive adjustments primarily in their clickbox.

While it remains uncertain whether every champion will eventually receive hitbox changes, the upcoming patch is a step towards improving the consistency of hitboxes for every unit in the game. It is crucial to extend these improvements to all units, not just the champions.

The full list of champions receiving hitbox changes, as well as other changes and updates in Patch 14.9, will be revealed in tomorrow’s expanded patch preview. This preview will also include adjustments to ranked gameplay and further nerfs for the rebuilt Skarner. Players can expect the update to land on the Rift next week.

Riot Phreak has not provided any additional details on this topic as of yet.
