Riot imposes hefty penalties on Deficio

Riot Games Punishes Commentator for Tampering

Riot Games has surprised the esports community with a competitive ruling against one of their own. Martin “Deficio” Lynge, a popular Danish color commentator for the European League Championship Series, has been suspended from casting for four weeks. This suspension comes after Lynge was offered a management position with Copenhagen Wolves, which violates Riot Games’ tampering rules. The coach of Copenhagen Wolves, Karl “Dentist” Krey, has also received a four-week suspension due to his involvement in the incident.

Further Penalties Imposed on Lynge

On top of the casting suspension, Lynge is also prohibited from accepting any position as an “approved Team Member” within an LCS team until the end of the 2016 season. This is the first time Riot Games has penalized someone solely for tampering, rather than poaching.

Investigation Reveals the Truth

Riot Games’ ruling is the result of an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred during the May 28 match between SK Gaming and Copenhagen Wolves. It was claimed that Lynge provided Krey with information about SK Gaming’s strategy. However, Riot Games found no evidence supporting this claim. During the investigation, it was discovered that Copenhagen Wolves had offered Lynge a management position, leading to the penalties imposed on both Lynge and Krey.

Apology and Future Outlook

Lynge has publicly apologized on Facebook for his actions and acknowledged that he should not have discussed career choices or revealed his own future plans as a Riot employee. Despite the suspension and penalties, Lynge’s friendships with the players are unlikely to be affected in the long run.
