Riot Games Settles Gender Discrimination Lawsuit for Minimum $10 Million Payment

Riot Games Agrees to $10 Million Settlement in Gender Discrimination Lawsuit

League of Legends developer Riot Games has reached a settlement in a gender discrimination lawsuit, agreeing to pay at least $10 million to former women employees, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. The settlement, which has been agreed upon by both the plaintiffs and defendant, still needs court approval.

The Lawsuit

The lawsuit was initiated by two women, one of whom was still employed by Riot, who filed a class-action suit in November 2018. They alleged that women at Riot were subjected to unequal pay and had limited career opportunities due to their gender.

Settlement Details

In August, Riot announced that a settlement had been reached, but did not disclose the amount. Court documents filed today revealed that around 1,000 self-identified women involved in the suit will receive a portion of the settlement, with tenured and full-time employees receiving higher compensation.

Company Response

Despite claiming to have a strong position to litigate, Riot stated that the settlement demonstrated their commitment to moving forward. In May, Riot experienced a company-wide walkout after one of the lawsuits was forced into neutral arbitration. The company expressed support for the walkout but maintained its policies regarding active lawsuits.
