Riot Games Plans to Alter Rod of Ages in Patch 9.12

Riot Games Reveals Changes to AP-Based Items for Patch 9.12

Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends, has announced some upcoming changes to AP-based items in Patch 9.12. Lead designer David “Repertoir” Capurro shared details about adjustments to Rod of Ages and other items on the official website.

Changes to Catalyst of Aeons

One of the major changes is to Catalyst of Aeons. The item’s cost will be reduced by 100 gold, but it will now provide 150 health instead of the original 225. The unique effect of the item, called Eternity, has also been revamped. Eternity will now restore five percent of damage taken as mana and restore 10 percent of damage dealt as health.

Lowered Price and Updated Effect for Haunting Guise

Haunting Guise will also undergo changes. The item’s price will be reduced by 200 gold, and its unique effect called Madness will grant players one percent damage per second while in combat with enemy champions, up to 10 percent. This effect will last for four seconds.

Overhaul to Rod of Ages

Furthermore, the build path for Rod of Ages will undergo modifications to include the aforementioned changes to Catalyst of Aeons and Haunting Guise. The purpose of this overhaul, according to Repertoir, is to offer sustained damage mages a chance to gain combat sustain. The changes will also address historical concerns and problems with the output of this item.

Repertoir further explained that the developer team aimed to reduce the number of mid-tier items that only build into one legendary item. This change will help declutter the item shop. The adjustments made to these items will provide mages with valuable in-combat stats and offer Riot an interesting direction to explore for the future of the game.
