Riot Games Announces Release of Short Novels Inspired by Demacia, a Nation within the In-Game Universe

Riot Games Plans to Release In-Game Lore Novels in 2019

Riot Games, the developers of the popular game League of Legends, recently revealed their plans for game lore in 2019. In a video on the Nexus blog platform, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, the narrative lead at Riot Games, shared some exciting updates.

New Comic Series and Novels

In the announcement video, Street discussed various projects, including a new comic series in partnership with Marvel. However, what caught our attention was the announcement of physical and digital novels based on the in-game lore. This marks a significant milestone for Riot Games, as they have previously released comic series but never novels.

Novellas Focused on Demacia

Street mentioned that one of their main goals for this year is to release novellas in both physical and digital formats. The first novella will focus on the Demacia region of the game’s fictional world, Runeterra. Riot Games is excited to create new content throughout the year and share it with their fans.

Unprecedented Step Forward in Lore

While Riot’s partnership with Marvel for comics was a big step in expanding the game’s lore, the release of novels is something entirely new. These short novels will be sold as physical copies, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the world of League of Legends. Although the exact length of these novels is yet to be revealed, they are expected to be longer than the stories on the official lore platform, Universe, but not as long as traditional novels.

With the addition of novels and more comic series, the lore of League of Legends is set to take an unprecedented step forward in 2019.
