Riot Games and MLB media subsidiary on the verge of striking a $90M agreement, according to reports

Riot Games is close to finalizing a deal with BAM Tech, the technology subsidiary of Major League Baseball Advanced Media. BAM Tech handles online streaming for various sports entities, including HBO, MLB, NHL, and WWE. This partnership could potentially generate $90 million in annual revenue for streaming and video content related to the popular game League of Legends, according to a report by SportsBusiness Daily.

According to esports host and Turner Sports contributing editor Richard Lewis, who reported this development in a YouTube video, both parties have been in regular contact for several weeks and an official announcement is expected in the coming weeks. While the specifics of the partnership are still unknown, it is likely to include highlights, stats, and a potential livestreaming platform to compete with Twitch and YouTube.

This agreement is seen as a response to criticisms from prominent team owners who expressed concerns about the lack of revenue and stability in a letter addressed to Riot Games. If the deal is successful, team owners may receive more financial assistance from Riot, potentially leading to increased salaries and revenue sharing.

MLB Advanced Media, which is a limited partnership of Major League Baseball club owners, specializes in monetizing video content, stats, and other online initiatives for the league. BAM Tech, on the other hand, is a collaboration between Baseball Advanced Media, The Walt Disney Company, and the National Hockey League.

No official comments from Riot Games or MLB have been released regarding this potential partnership.
