Riot experiments with Amumu adjustments to enhance champion’s performance in League of Legends Patch 11.17 for high MMR players

Riot Testing Radical Amumu Balance Changes for League of Legends Patch 11.17

Riot is currently testing some drastic balance changes for Amumu in the upcoming League of Legends Patch 11.17. These changes aim to improve the champion’s performance in higher MMR games, according to lead game designer Jeevun Sidhu.

To address the significant performance disparity, the developers are considering adding a second charge to Amumu’s Bandage Toss (Q) ability. This change will resemble the mechanics of Caitlyn’s Yordle Snap Trap (W) and Teemo’s Noxious Trap (R), with an ammo system and a lower cooldown for more flexibility, as explained by Sidhu.

If these changes make it to the live servers, it will grant Amumu players an additional gap closer. Missing a Bandage Toss will be less punishing for lower-ranked players, while higher-ranked players can have more options when ganking and engaging in teamfights.

In the current Patch 11.15, Amumu had a 54 percent win rate in Silver and a 49 percent win rate in Platinum and above in NA solo queue, according to League stats site Champion.gg. However, in Diamond and Master, those numbers dropped to 42 percent and 17 percent, respectively.

In professional play, Amumu has yet to make an appearance in the LCS, LEC, LCK, and LPL this split, according to Oracle’s Elixir.

The experimental changes for Amumu are available for testing on League’s PBE. If approved by the developers, they will be implemented on live servers starting from Aug. 25.
