Following a lengthy investigation behind the scenes, Riot Games has officially handed out multiple punishments across the Vietnamese League of Legends scene due to violations of the Global Code of Conduct, including several permanent bans from professional play.
VCS players across eight different pro teams have been banned from Riot-sanctioned events moving forward, with eight permabans, six three-year bans, and a handful of players banned for one to two years, Riot confirmed today. A few players, however, got their sanctions lifted, allowing them to participate in the League’s forthcoming 2024 Summer Split.
Although there has been no formal confirmation of the reasons for the suspensions, the VCS has stated that it “will not accept any conduct that jeopardize competitive integrity.” This could entail a variety of things, but in the end, some of these players’ conduct were severe enough to result in a lifetime ban.
Many of the players violated Article Three of the Esports Global Code of Conduct, which has a whole collection of wrongdoings, including cheating, studio and venue interference, threats, bribery, gambling, matchfixing, and more.
Other players, however, violated Article 4.1 of the rule, which states that all pros “shall report any infringement of the rule of Conduct to [Riot] as soon as they become aware of it.” This indicates that these players were likely aware of their colleagues’ acts but did not report them to officials. Any offenders of Article 4.1 were given relatively lesser bans, although none were less than eight months.
Some noteworthy names who were punished with bans include Trần “BeanJ” Văn Chính, Lê “Gloryy” Ngọc Vinh, and Bùi “Froggy” Văn Minh Hải, all of whom have made appearances at international League tournaments for the area.
