Riot Games Denies Collaboration with Artist for League of Legends World Championship Anthem
Musical artist Simon Rosenfeld released a song titled “Heroes” today, claiming it to be an alternative anthem for the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. However, Riot Games has denied any contact with the artist, according to an official statement given to .
The Riot spokesperson expressed appreciation for community creations and fan tributes but clarified that Riot Games Music has never been in contact with Rosenfeld.
Artist Claims Collaboration with Riot Games
In an article on PCGamesN, Rosenfeld revealed what he believed to be a collaboration with Riot Games and shared that the song was even taken down when he attempted to publish it. Additionally, he posted a thread on his Twitter account this week, explaining how his song “Heroes” was “canceled” by Riot.
Timeline of Events
Rosenfeld provided a detailed timeline of events, stating that in late 2020, he and his team contacted Riot Games to submit a song for the 2021 World Championship. According to Rosenfeld, Riot approved the song, and they signed with the publisher. However, “Burn it all Down” ended up becoming the Worlds anthem for that year. Rosenfeld claims he was informed that the song he worked on would likely be used in 2022. When it became apparent that this wouldn’t be the case, the artist decided to take matters into his own hands.
Artist Releases Song Independently
Although there was a risk of the song being taken down again, Rosenfeld went ahead and published “Heroes” on a new YouTube account. He expressed his frustrations with the situation, stating that while Riot has compensated them for their work and has the legal right to withhold the song, it’s a matter of morals. Feeling played and that he let down his team, Rosenfeld made the decision to release the song himself.
