Riot changes decision on VALORANT and offers paid name changes for LoL

Riot Games Reverses Controversial Name Change Update

Riot Games has decided to reverse its planned update to the name change system after receiving backlash from the gaming community. Originally, the company had intended to charge players $10 per name change, but this decision was met with criticism from both VALORANT and League of Legends players.

Changes to Name Change System

The planned update to the name change system was set to coincide with a shift on Nov. 20, where Summoner Names in League of Legends would be retired and all accounts would be transitioned to Riot IDs. However, players were dissatisfied with the original plans, as they would only be able to change their names once every 365 days and would have to pay $10 for each change.

Riot Games has since announced that it will be making changes to address player concerns. The company has decided to eliminate the $10 charge for name changes when the new system goes live on Nov. 20. Additionally, players will now be able to change their Riot ID every 90 days instead of waiting a full year.

Player Feedback Leads to Changes

Riot Games made this decision after carefully considering feedback from players around the world and engaging in internal discussions. The company recognized the importance of player input and decided to make the necessary adjustments to improve the name change system.

Implications for Players

With the new system, VALORANT players will need to wait 90 days instead of 30 to change their Riot ID, while League of Legends players will no longer need to spend Blue Essence or RP to change their names. However, League of Legends players will no longer have the freedom to change their names whenever they want. Regardless of these changes, all players will have the opportunity to make an immediate Riot ID name change starting on Nov. 20, even if they have made a recent change in the past 90 days.

These updates to the name change system aim to create a more user-friendly experience for players and address their concerns regarding name changes. By eliminating the monetary cost and reducing the waiting period, Riot Games hopes to provide a smoother transition to the new Riot ID system.
