Riot boosting beginner-friendly champions in League of Legends Patch 14.9

League of Legends Patch 14.9 Details Revealed

Riot Games recently unveiled more information about the upcoming League of Legends Patch 14.9, set to release on April 24. Despite their already decent win rates, the developer is planning to buff some of the easiest champions on the Rift.

Easy Champions Getting Buffs

Among the champions classified as “easy” by Riot are Amumu, Malzahar, and Seraphine. These three champions, alongside Kennen, Sejuani, and Karma, are all set to receive minor buffs in Patch 14.9. According to Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, the lead gameplay designer for League, these buffs are aimed at making the beginner-friendly champions feel more powerful.

Reasons Behind the Buffs

Phroxzon explained, “Some of our easy champions like Amumu, Malzahar, and to a lesser extent, Seraphine, have been maintaining a 51 percent win rate for some time now.” He emphasized that these champions have a low mastery curve of around three percent and should feel strong as they are designed for novice players.

Unique Buffs for Different Champions

The buffs for Karma, Kennen, and Sejuani vary based on specific reasons. For Karma, the adjustments aim to balance her mid-lane versus support role dynamics. With the Mid-Season Invitational approaching, Riot has the opportunity to experiment with Karma without disrupting the professional meta. Similarly, Sejuani’s buffs are tailored to match the current state of the game, while Kennen is receiving improvements that enhance the overall gameplay experience.

While the changes themselves are not massive, they are significant enough to impact the gameplay. Seraphine, Malzahar, and Amumu will see slight boosts to their abilities and base stats. On the other hand, Karma and Sejuani will undergo more intricate adjustments to their skill sets. Karma’s Q and R+E skills are being strengthened, Sejuani’s passive and W abilities are getting a boost, and Kennen will benefit from quality-of-life improvements to his ultimate and E animations.

What Else to Expect in Patch 14.9

In addition to these champion buffs, Patch 14.9 will also introduce nerfs and other adjustments to maintain balance in the game. The patch is scheduled to go live on May 1, bringing a mix of changes to the gameplay experience for all League of Legends players.
