Riot aims to enhance League of Legends meta with new champion additions and buffs scheduled for Patch 12.7: Yone, Gwen, Lillia, Wukong, and others

Riot Games Plans to Shake Up League of Legends Meta in Patch 12.7

Riot Games is planning to make some significant changes to the meta in Patch 12.7 of League of Legends. The game developer will be sending buffs to several champions, including Yone, Yasuo, Gwen, Pantheon, Wukong, Neeko, Gangplank, Kalista, Lillia, and Karthus, in an effort to diversify the dominant picks and bring back some forgotten champions into the spotlight. The aim is to create a more exciting meta ahead of the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational.

Bringing Forgotten Champs Back

In a Twitter announcement, game designer Tim “Truexy” Jiang stated that the focus of Patch 12.7 is to shake up the meta’s dominant picks and introduce new ones that have not been seen before. This move aims to create a fresh and dynamic gameplay experience for players.

Some of the champions receiving buffs have fallen out of favor in the meta recently. For example, Gwen’s play rate declined significantly after the extensive nerfs in Patch 12.5. According to League stats site U.GG, Gwen has one of the lowest win rates among top lane champions, sitting at only 46.3 percent.

Kalista and Lillia, previously prominent champions in professional play, have also seen a sharp decline. Kalista has been picked only eight times worldwide, while Lillia has been chosen just once by a pro team, according to League stat aggregator Gol.gg. Similarly, champions like Neeko, Pantheon, and Karthus have barely made an appearance in pro play across major regions.

The Return of the Blade Brothers

Yone and Yasuo, famous blade-wielding champions, will also receive buffs in Patch 12.7. This could lead to more exciting team compositions featuring these brothers, especially when paired with champions like Diana. The buffs may result in explosive team fights and intense late-game clashes.

New Champions on the Rise?

As Patch 12.7 brings nerfs to popular champions like Zeri, Lee Sin, Ryze, and Jayce, there is potential for new niche picks to emerge among the top teams participating in the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational. The changes in the meta could create opportunities for previously overlooked champions to shine.

Patch 12.7 is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, April 13th, bringing these anticipated changes to the League of Legends community.
