Riot aims to decrease Teamfight Tactics queue time

League of Legends Players Experiencing Long Queue Times for Teamfight Tactics

Players of League of Legends are facing up to 20 hours of queue time for the new game mode, Teamfight Tactics. In order to address this issue, Riot Games is implementing some changes to the Public Beta Environment (PBE).

High Demand Causing Server Issues

With the official release of Teamfight Tactics on June 25 approaching, hundreds of thousands of players are eagerly waiting to play. However, due to the high demand, players are being stuck in queue for extended periods of time. While this would not be a problem on regular servers, the PBE servers are struggling to handle the traffic.

Testing New Technology to Improve Experience

To alleviate the queue time issue, Riot Games is testing new technology. The goal is to enable more unique players to participate in the beta test. From 10am to 2pm CT, players will have to wait through a timer after finishing a game before they can play another one. According to Riot Games, this approach will help balance the number of games played and reduce login queue congestion while still allowing players to enjoy Summoner’s Rift matches.

Expanding Access to Teamfight Tactics

If all goes according to plan, Riot Games will remove the queue throttle after the PBE redeploy in the afternoon, giving even more players the opportunity to test and experience Teamfight Tactics.

With the growing anticipation for Teamfight Tactics, 2019 is shaping up to be the year of the autobattler, following the trend set by the battle royale genre in 2018.
