Reportedly, a well-known mid laner from Europe is making a comeback to the LEC as a substitute player.

LEC Star Abbedagge Returns to Europe, Joins Excel Esports as Substitute

Former LEC star Abbedagge is making his way back to Europe after spending two seasons in North America. According to independent League of Legends reporter Brieuc Seeger, the mid laner has signed on as a substitute with Excel Esports.

Abbedagge had been playing for 100 Thieves in the LCS since mid-2021. During his time with the organization, he reached three LCS finals and emerged victorious in one. He also represented 100 Thieves at the World Championship twice, but unfortunately, the team didn’t make it past the group stage on either occasion. In the recent Summer Split, Abbedagge ranked second among all LCS mid laners in KDA, falling just behind Bjergsen, who took his place on 100 Thieves this offseason, according to League stats site Games of Legends.

Abbedagge’s acquisition by Excel Esports was confirmed on Twitter by LEC Wooloo. As a substitute player, Abbedagge will have the freedom to consider offers from other teams as well.

Two years ago, Abbedagge last competed in Europe with FC Schalke 04. Although the team didn’t find success on the international stage, Abbedagge played a crucial role, especially during the team’s LEC regional qualifier run in 2019.

With Excel, Abbedagge will serve as a backup to starting mid laner Vetheo. Vetheo, who performed exceptionally well with Misfits in his sophomore season last year, received All-Pro honors in both the Spring and Summer Splits and won the league’s MVP award in the Spring Split.

Excel has been building a roster of experienced players, with the addition of Odoamne and Xerxe as their top-jungle duo this offseason.

The 2023 LEC Winter Split is set to commence on Jan. 21, introducing a new format that includes an extra split at the start of the year.
