Report: League of Legends World Championship 2023 Set to Return to South Korea

The League of Legends World Championship Returns to South Korea in 2023

According to independent League journalist Brieuc Seeger, the highly anticipated League of Legends World Championship will be making its way back to South Korea in 2023. This news has excited fans worldwide.

In 2018, South Korea last hosted the championship, where Invictus Gaming and Fnatic battled it out in a thrilling finals match at the Incheon Munhak Stadium. Since then, the tournament has been held in Europe twice, once in China, and most recently in North America.

This season, Worlds returned to North America after a six-year break between tournaments. However, South Korean fans won’t have to wait as long, with only a five-year gap between their iterations of Worlds. South Korea also hosted the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational, the first MSI with a live audience since 2019.

South Korea’s Impact on the League of Legends World Championship

Despite South Korea’s dominance in the League of Legends global scene, having won a total of seven out of the 12 World Championships held, the country has only hosted the event twice. The last time a South Korean team won the World Championship on home soil was in 2014 when Samsung White clinched victory over Starhorn Royal Club.

Riot Games, the organizer of the League of Legends events, has not yet announced the location for the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational, but there are reports suggesting it will take place in London.

Exciting Changes to the 2023 Professional League Season

The 2023 professional League season is set to commence in January with a brand new international tournament called the “Season Kickoff.” This event replaces the canceled All-Star event and features teams from nine different regions around the globe. Fans are eagerly awaiting the start of this exciting competition.
