Report: Former LCS Champion Rejoins 100 Thieves for 2023 Summer Split

Superstar top laner Ssumday returning to 100 Thieves for LCS Summer Split

After spending five years with 100 Thieves’ League of Legends division, Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho is reportedly making a comeback to the organization for the 2023 LCS Summer Split. According to esports journalist Brieuc Seeger, an agreement has already been reached, marking the first roster move for 100 Thieves as they strive to break into the championship picture once again.

Ssumday replaces Tenacity as 100 Thieves’ top laner

Ssumday will be taking the place of Milan “Tenacity” Oleksij, the current top laner and longtime prospect for 100 Thieves. Tenacity, who got his chance on the LCS stage this past season after spending two years in the team’s developmental system, was put in a weakside role during the 2023 Spring Split. With players like Bjergsen and Doublelift receiving more resources and jungle attention, Tenacity found it challenging to adapt, and the team struggled to meet expectations, finishing the regular season with a record of 10-8. In the playoffs, they were eliminated in back-to-back series against FlyQuest and Golden Guardians.

Challenges for Ssumday and 100 Thieves

On the other hand, Ssumday couldn’t replicate the same level of success with Evil Geniuses (EG) as he had with 100 Thieves. Despite having a talented roster, EG lacked consistency throughout the season and were eventually swept by Golden Guardians in the postseason. Now, Ssumday will need to collaborate with Closer and Doublelift on new strategies as 100 Thieves aims to secure a spot in the World Championship this October.
