Rell Receives Long-Awaited Update for LoL Midlane: Complete Buffs and Rework Adjustments

Rell Gets Exciting Changes in League of Legends Patch 13.9

Ever since Riot Games released Rell in 2020, the tank support champion hasn’t been popular among professional players or solo queue enthusiasts. In fact, she had a low 1.3 percent pick rate among supports in Patch 13.9, according to U.GG.

But there’s good news for fans of the metal horse.

On May 16, Riot developers revealed upcoming changes for Rell that will give her better opportunities to initiate fights and make big plays in the game. These changes aim to make her a more viable and engaging champion for players.

Rell will also receive some improvements in the jungle, including extra damage to neutral monsters. This will make her a niche pick for players looking for a new and exciting champion. Riot has been working hard to ensure that Rell’s updated abilities maintain her identity as a durable frontline tank who can initiate fights easily, while still preserving her original vibe.

Updated Abilities and Changes

Passive – Break the Mold

Rell’s attacks and abilities will now steal three percent armor and magic resist from her targets, up to a maximum of 15 percent each. These stolen resistances will last for the full duration of the buff, even if the target dies. Rell can stack the armor and magic resist shred up to five times per target.

Q – Shattering Strike

Rell thrusts her lance, stunning targets for 0.75 seconds and destroying all shields. She also deals 250 (+50 percent AP) magic damage with this ability. In addition, Shattering Strike deals 250 percent damage to jungle monsters. However, it no longer heals Rell or her allies. The ability has a range of 520 units in front of Rell and 220 units behind her. The cooldown has been increased from 9-5 seconds to 11-9 seconds per level, and the cast time has been increased by 0.15 seconds.

W – Ferromancy: Crash Down

Rell leaps off her mount, knocking up enemies for 0.75 seconds and dealing 190 (+60 percent AP) magic damage. She also gains a shield equal to 130 (+10 percent HP), which lasts until she remounts. After leaping, Rell enters armored form, gaining a 10 percent bonus to armor and magic resist, 15/20/25/30/35 percent bonus attack speed, and 75 attack range. However, she is slowed by 15 percent. The AP damage of Crash Down has been reduced from 70-210 (+60 percent AP) to 70-190 (+60 percent AP), and the shield strength has been decreased from 30-135 (+12 percent max health) to 30-130 (+10 percent max health). Other adjustments include a decrease in max slide distance from 375 to 320 units, a decrease in knockup radius from 200 to 180 units, a decrease in jump range from 500 to 400 units, and a decrease in knockup duration from one second to 0.75 seconds.

W – Ferromancy: Mount Up

Rell mounts up, gaining a 30 percent decaying movement speed buff. Her next attack knocks up and throws an enemy behind her, dealing 10 (+40 percent AP) magic damage. This ability deals 250 percent damage to neutral jungle camps.

E – Full Tilt

Rell’s passive ability, “Mounted Alacrity,” grants her 50 movement speed while mounted, which is reduced during combat. The active effect, “Full Tilt,” provides Rell and a linked ally with up to 20 percent movement speed over three seconds, increasing to 40 percent when moving towards enemies or the linked ally. After one second, Rell’s next attack or Shattering Strike will explode in the targeted area, dealing 40 (+30 percent AP) plus three percent max health magic damage. Full Tilt also deals 250 percent damage to neutral jungle camps.

When Will Rell’s Mid-Scope Update Arrive?

Rell’s mid-scope update is set to arrive in Patch 13.11 on Thursday, June 1, according to a pre-patch announcement from the League dev team on Twitter.

Rell’s update has been long overdue, and players can look forward to these changes making her a more viable and exciting champion in League lobbies.
