Rell fully embraces her engage tank fantasies in upcoming League of Legends mid-scoped changes

League of Legends Champion Rell Receives Major Overhaul in Latest Update

League of Legends players have long desired improvements for the underused champion Rell, also known as the Iron Maiden. Now, their wishes have been granted with a massive update to her abilities.

The reworked version of Rell’s kit is currently available for testing on League’s Public Beta Environment (PBE). While her mounting and dismounting gameplay remains intact, her abilities and stats have undergone significant changes, providing her with more opportunities to engage her enemies.

It is unclear when this update will go live on the servers. Riot Games recently postponed the release of Ivern’s update in Patch 13.10, so players will need to wait for further announcements regarding Rell’s update.

Riot recognized the need to improve Rell’s dismounting mechanic to avoid hindering players. Consequently, they have given her the attack speed of a normal melee tank champion. However, her movement speed and armor/magic resist growth have been decreased. To balance this, Rell’s reworked passive now allows her to steal a percentage of armor and magic resist from enemies she attacks, stacking up to 15 percent.

Rell’s Q ability, which briefly stuns enemies upon contact, is no longer her primary ability to max. To compensate for the strength of this crowd control effect, its range has been reduced and it no longer provides Rell with a slight heal upon impact. However, it still breaks any shields that enemies have cast on themselves.

The form-changing effect of Rell’s W ability remains similar to its previous iteration, but now grants her a burst of attack speed and range upon dismounting. Additionally, her movement speed is now only reduced by 15 percent instead of being set at a static 280.

Riot has completely removed Rell’s E tether ability and replaced it with a new ability called Full Tilt. This passive ability provides Rell with a significant out-of-combat movement speed buff while mounted. When activated, both Rell and a nearby ally gain a burst of movement speed that is doubled when moving towards enemies.

Riot seems to be allowing players to use Rell in the jungle, as her Q and reworked E abilities now have damage multipliers against jungle monsters. This creates an interesting playstyle for the champion, although her lack of damage often requires her to work directly with a carry champion. Nevertheless, her crowd control abilities make her ganking potential very strong.

As the midscope update for Rell is still in the testing phase, it is likely that certain aspects of her kit will undergo further changes based on player feedback. Some updates may even be removed entirely. The release date for Rell’s midscope update on the live servers has not been announced yet.
