Rekkles reflects on Caps leaving Fnatic: “No longer bitter. Based on current issues, it appears he had a sheer desire for victory”

Fnatic’s Struggles in the LEC: What Went Wrong?

In 2018, Fnatic had an incredible year in the world of League of Legends. They won back-to-back EU LCS championships, represented Europe at MSI, and made it to the finals at Worlds. However, this year has brought a major shift in their performance, and not in a good way.

The team that dominated the western scene last year now finds itself with a dismal 1-5 record, barely avoiding last place in the new League European Championship (LEC). Many fans attribute this decline to the departure of star player Rasmus “Caps” Winther, one of the best mid lane players in the world. However, it seems that Caps leaving may have been just a symptom of a larger problem, according to Fnatic’s longtime bot lane carry, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson.

Rekkles’ Insights: The Caps Situation

During a recent stream, Rekkles shed some light on the situation with Caps. He revealed that Caps left the team because of underlying issues within Fnatic. “It made it seem like he just wanted to win,” Rekkles explained.

Rekkles also shared his initial frustration when he learned about the roster change. He considered Caps a close friend, and the decision to leave was never discussed with him beforehand. However, Rekkles now acknowledges that Caps was right. The problems and struggles that Fnatic is currently facing were the same issues that Caps had been referring to when he made the move to join G2 Esports.

Internal Struggles and Questions

While it’s impossible to know if Caps foresaw Fnatic’s poor performance, it’s evident that there were internal struggles or weaknesses that bothered him before his departure. Rekkles’ Twitch chat was divided on the matter, with some fans labeling Caps as a “snake.”

Regardless of the circumstances and the absence of Caps, Fnatic’s current performance is a far cry from their previous success. While some fans expected a slight decline without their star player, dropping from Worlds finalists to second-worst in the LEC is a drastic shift.
