Rekkles believes Fnatic’s performance against Top Esports isn’t a justification for losing.

Fnatic Falls Short in League of Legends World Championship Quarterfinals

Fnatic’s journey in the League of Legends World Championship quarterfinals was a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows. Despite putting up a strong fight against Top Esports, Fnatic ultimately fell short in a historic reverse sweep.

In the first two games, Fnatic showcased their dominance by securing early leads across the map. The bottom lane duo of Rekkles and Hylissang delivered an impressive performance, outplaying ex-world champion JackeyLove and support Yuyanjia.

However, Fnatic’s commanding performance wasn’t enough to overcome the formidable Top Esports. In a post-game press conference, Rekkles expressed his disappointment, stating that their efforts would likely be forgotten. Despite some of the best performances in their careers, Fnatic couldn’t overcome the immovable force that was TES.

A Different Grudge Match

Prior to the quarterfinals, all eyes were on the AD carry grudge match between Rekkles and JackeyLove. Two years ago, JackeyLove emerged victorious in their showdown, securing the first World Championship title for the LPL. However, this series took a different turn, particularly in terms of bottom lane draft strategies. Gone were the high-damage teamfighting monsters like Kai’Sa and Xayah.

Instead, this year’s AD carry pool focused on utility, which presented a different kind of pressure for Rekkles as a marksman player. He noted the challenges of performing well in different stages of the game, highlighting the need for early game proactivity in a utility meta.

An Action-Packed Series

The quarterfinal series between Fnatic and Top Esports was marked by intense early game action. Both teams displayed proactivity and aggression from the start, resulting in an action-packed clash. Fnatic lost their 100% first-blood rate due to a top lane dive, and the games remained bloody throughout.

Ultimately, Top Esports’ superior teamfighting skills secured them a 3-2 victory, advancing them to the semifinals against Suning Gaming on Oct. 25th.
