Rekkles Joins T1 Academy’s League of Legends Team
According to the latest reports, Rekkles, the 27-year-old League of Legends player, is set to join T1’s academy team in the 2024 LCK Challengers League.
On November 20, LEC Wooloo reported that Rekkles has already reached a verbal agreement to play for T1 Academy in 2024.
Rekkles has been frequently seen at the T1 facility in Seoul, South Korea, and has even participated in scrims with the team. He recently left Fnatic after being on the inactive roster for months.
When Rekkles left Fnatic, he mentioned that he wanted to transition from the AD carry position to the support role. He considered options in the LEC but ultimately decided to play for T1 Academy in 2024.
The news of Rekkles joining T1 Academy comes a day after T1’s victory in the 2023 League World Championship. The academy team, however, hasn’t achieved any notable victories in 2023.
Although Rekkles is leaving the top European LoL scene to join Korea’s LCK Challengers, which is considered a stronger region, he won’t be starting matches on the LCK stage alongside Faker. However, T1 has a history of promoting players from their academy squad based on their performance.
The deal also brings attention from European fans who are interested to see how Rekkles adapts to his new squad in the LCK academy series.
Rekkles has a legendary status in the LEC, having played a crucial role in Fnatic’s victories in several LEC tournaments. He came close to winning the World Championship in 2018, narrowly losing to Invictus Gaming in the grand finals.
However, Rekkles’ reputation took a hit during his controversial stint with G2 in 2021. Joining LCK Challengers will be an opportunity for him to reinvent himself.
