Quick turnaround: FlyQuest re-embraces VicLa train with sub Spirax following a single loss

FlyQuest Struggles in 2023 LCS Summer Split, Makes Mid-Game Substitution

FlyQuest’s performance in the 2023 LCS Summer Split has been a nightmare. Despite having championship aspirations, the team has had a disappointing 3-9 start to the split. In an attempt to turn things around, FlyQuest made a substitution in the mid lane, replacing VicLa with Challenger-level sub Spirax.

Spirax’s Short-Lived Stint

However, after just one game, Spirax has been moved back to the bench and VicLa is returning to the starting lineup. This change comes ahead of today’s game against Evil Geniuses, who are tied for first place.

According to FlyQuest, the decision to bring VicLa back was pre-planned and not based solely on the outcome of yesterday’s game against NRG Esports. Spirax was given scrims experience before week five, and the team sees yesterday’s game as a trial period for the substitute player.

FlyQuest’s Uphill Battle

In the loss against NRG, Spirax performed well individually, but the team still lost. FlyQuest faced difficulties dealing with NRG’s double-ADC team composition, particularly Palafox’s Tristana pick. Palafox dominated the game with a 7/0/8 scoreline and outdamaged Spirax by about 7,000 damage to champions, according to Games of Legends.

FlyQuest has only five games left in the regular season and must win all of them to have a chance at making the playoffs. With a current record of 3-10, the team sits in ninth place, just outside of a playoff spot. The Summer Split playoffs have expanded to eight teams, providing a glimmer of hope for FlyQuest, but they still have an uphill battle ahead.

The team’s remaining games are against top-five ranked teams in the standings, starting with today’s match against Evil Geniuses. The outcome of these matches will determine FlyQuest’s fate.
