Power Rankings for Week One of LEC Spring 2019

LEC Power Rankings After First Week: G2 and Misfits Dominate, Fnatic Struggles

The first week of the LEC has concluded, and it did not disappoint. G2 and Misfits delivered dominant performances, while Fnatic, the defending champions, fell short. It is important to note that these rankings are still early, considering the major changes in the league due to franchising. However, we asked voters to rank each team from one to ten, and here are the results:

RankTeamPoints
1)G2 Esports19
1)Misfits19
3)FC Schalke 0416
4)Vitality14
5)Origen11
6)Fnatic9
7)SK Gaming9
8)Excel Esports6
9)Splyce5
10)Rogue2

Bottom of the Barrel

Not surprisingly, Excel, Rogue, and Splyce find themselves at the bottom of the list. We expressed doubts about the rosters these two teams put together in our preseason tier list, and their performance so far confirms those doubts. The only victory these teams have managed is when they faced each other. To improve, both teams need to improve communication and coordination on the map.

Splyce, despite being one of the stronger teams last year, also finds itself in this tier. We raised concerns about their brand-new roster in our tier list. Interestingly, one of the struggling players is their incumbent jungler, Xerxe, who seems uncomfortable in his pathing and has made questionable teamfight decisions in the first week. However, Splyce started slow last year and managed to recover, so it remains to be seen if they can do the same this split.

Time to Worry?

Fnatic is the notable team that underperformed in the first week. They essentially went 0-3, including a game against SK that was ended by a remake but was going in SK’s favor. Fnatic’s mid laner, Nemesis, has been struggling, which is concerning for a team that is expected to compete for championships. Additionally, their jungler, Broxah, has been largely invisible. It is worth noting that Nemesis lost to several of his former Mad Lions teammates when Fnatic faced SK. SK, along with Origen, rounds out this group.

We Remember You

Just below the top teams are Schalke and Vitality, who maintain their positions from last summer. Schalke defeated Vitality but lost to G2’s jungle Karthus. Vitality, on the other hand, looked shaky with their new jungler, Mowgli, which was a concern we raised prior to the start of the split. Vitality is currently in fourth place due to their strong performance at the end of last year, but they need to show that same form soon if they want to maintain their position in the rankings.

Playing for Keeps

G2 and Misfits made significant moves in the offseason, and their dominance in the first four games of the season is not surprising. It is highly likely that these two teams will compete for the top spot throughout the split.
